Hoerner YMCA renovation

The Hoerner YMCA will celebrate the completion of a major renovation project with an open house in August.

The project updated and added programming space to the southeast corner of the building. That area will be open for tours all day on Wednesday, Aug. 11, and a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m.

The project really began four years ago when the board reviewed community needs and the YMCA mission, committing to a planned three-phase improvement to the building.

A capital campaign kicked off in earnest in 2019 when Roquette made a 4-year pledge of $500,000. That was followed by support from a number of local businesses and individuals, all of whom will be recognized during the ribbon cutting.

The recently completed first phase replaced two underutilized and deteriorated racquetball courts. In their place are a two-story improvement. The first floor features three rooms: a classroom, a storage room, and a multi-purpose room that will serve as a Teen Center and exercise studio. The second floor features a large group exercise space.

The YMCA continues to raise funds for the next two phases, which will renovate the locker rooms and showers.
